La Comuna de ParĂs de 1871 va ser el primer intent reeixit de construir una alternativa democrĂ tica i popular al sistema liberal. La primera experiència socialista del mĂ³n no va basar-se Ăºnicament en el dia a dia dels sectors urbans que l’impulsaren, sinĂ³ que tambĂ© fou la cristal·litzaciĂ³ d’una amalgama de pensament popular que s’arrossegava des de feia decennis.
Ex ante : la derrota de 1848
«Estem dormint sobre un volcĂ … No s’adonen que la terra tremola de nou? Bufa un vent revolucionari, i la tempestat es perfila ja en l’horitzĂ³». Quan Alexis de Tocqueville pronunciĂ aquestes paraules, a principis de 1848, a la Cambra de Diputats francesa, dues grans onades revolucionĂ ries liberals ja havien recorregut Europa durant les dècades de 1820 i 1830. Faltava, perĂ², un darrer moviment sĂsmic a Europa que acabaria d’assentar el nou ordre liberal que venia coent-se des del segle XVIII.
I Ă©s que el capitalisme i el liberalisme polĂtic no foren moviments que s’imposessin rĂ pidament i total desprĂ©s de la «Gran» RevoluciĂ³ Francesa (1789-99); de la mateixa manera que l’Antic Règim tampoc desapareixeria immediatament i absoluta. Malgrat els intents restauracionistes per rescatar l’Antic Règim desprĂ©s de les guerres revolucionĂ ries i napoleĂ²niques i la derrota definitiva de NapoleĂ³ a Waterloo (1815) per part de les principals potències absolutistes europees, cal observar el perĂode 1800-1848 com un temps de transiciĂ³ i de convivència de dos models socials aparentment contradictoris : per una banda, el representat per l’Antic Règim (decadent), i per una altra, el liberal (ascendent). Dit d’una altra manera: no hi haguĂ© una ruptura, sinĂ³ una transiciĂ³ cap al liberalisme i el capitalisme; i moltes de les elits de l’Antic Règim s’adaptaren als nous temps (recordem Il Gattopardo ).
En aquest sentit, els moviments revolucionaris de 1820 i 1830, tot i que protagonitzats en bona part per les classes populars, no portaren a la terra promesa dels eteris «drets humans» ni a un mĂ³n millor… per a tothom, sinĂ³ que encimbellĂ una nova classe social i polĂtica dirigent: la burgesia (urbana o rural) . Mentrestant, les classes populars, el nou cap visible de les quals seria el proletariat, eren la baula feble de l’expressiĂ³ «l’explotaciĂ³ de l’home per l’home». NomĂ©s cal recordar que entre 1800 i 1860, es calcula que hi haguĂ© un augment de la productivitat del 400% sense grans innovacions tecnolĂ²giques. Un fenomen explicable principalment per la brutal extracciĂ³ del treball a la qual se sotmetia a les classes treballadores .
La Primavera dels Pobles (1848) , l’Ăºltima potser de les grans revolucions liberals, es diferenciĂ de les anteriors onades revolucionĂ ries del segle XIX europeu pel fort vessant popular que tinguĂ© i perquè pot ser definida com a la primera revoluciĂ³ global. En llocs com Alemanya, ItĂ lia o Hongria, es fĂ©u una defensa radical a favor d’implementar repĂºbliques democrĂ tiques, unitĂ ries i centralitzades , seguint el model de la França revolucionĂ ria (la de 1789-99) i democrĂ tico-popular dels jacobins. Fruit de la convergència de diverses crisis (agrĂcoles, industrials i ideolĂ²giques), acabĂ en un enorme fracĂ s, amb algunes excepcions. TambĂ© Ă©s cert que confirmĂ l’apariciĂ³ d’una nova generaciĂ³ de lĂders i pensadors obrers que començaven a plantejar obertament i de manera estructurada alternatives al capitalisme i al liberalisme . El 1848, recordem-ho, tambĂ© Ă©s l’any de l’apariciĂ³ d’un text anomenat Manifest del Partit Comunista .
A França, que com altres vegades lideraria l’onada revolucionĂ ria a Europa, l’esperança de 1848 s’iniciaria amb un canvi de règim : de la Monarquia de Juliol (1830) de LluĂs Felip d’Orleans («el rei ciutadĂ » que havia encapçalat un «regnat dels banquers») es passĂ a la proclamaciĂ³ de la II RepĂºblica Francesa (1848-51). Les classes populars de ParĂs , que tornaren a Ă©sser un actor indispensable per imprimir un to eminentment republicano-democrĂ tic al nou règim republicĂ , foren traĂ¯des novament i durament reprimides durant les «jornades de juny» d’aquell mateix any (es calcula que hi hagueren milers de morts, deportats i detinguts). Les diferents eleccions que anaren succeint-se des de l’abril de 1848 fins al 1851 feren la resta, al donar el poder a les classes dominants —especialment als partits monĂ rquics— que permeteren a la burgesia un marge de maniobra sense precedents per implementar les iniciatives legislatives que mĂ©s s’adeqĂ¼essin a les seves necessitats de classe.

Foto: WikipediaLa curta vida de la RepĂºblica, perĂ², acabĂ entre l’1 i 2 de desembre de 1851, quan LluĂs NapoleĂ³ Bonaparte, nebot de NapoleĂ³ I i president de la RepĂºblica, donĂ un cop d’estat , aprofitant la debilitat dels partits monĂ rquics i els seus interessos sovint contraposats, i amb el suport d’amplis sectors de l’exèrcit. Dos referèndums li permeteren, primerament, ser reelegit president i reforçar el poder executiu sobre el legislatiu i, segonament, proclamar el Segon Imperi.
Tot per al poble, perĂ² sense el poble: NapoleĂ³ III NapoleĂ³ III (1852-70), una caricatura del seu tiet en qualsevol Ă mbit imaginable, sabĂ© combinar l’autoritarisme amb un cert estil populista que li permetĂ© prescindir de les forces polĂtiques que havien protagonitzat la vida polĂtica de la II RepĂºblica . Es restringiren llibertats individuals i col·lectives i s’afinĂ l’aparell repressiu . Especialment, l’obscur desig de la repressiĂ³ del nou règim era la capital: ParĂs, l’epicentre de totes les grans revolucions contemporĂ nies que havia viscut França des de 1789. SerĂ aquesta preocupaciĂ³ per tenir controlada la ciutat la que explica, per exemple, les enormes i cabdals reformes urbanĂstiques del barĂ³ Haussman a la ciutat, les quals no buscaven Ăºnicament el sanejament i millora de les condicions de vida de les classes populars que vivien al centre parisenc, sinĂ³ tambĂ© un control eficaç de la ciutat que permetĂ©s un desplaçament rĂ pid de les forces militars grĂ cies a la construcciĂ³ de grans avingudes i l’espaiament de la ciutat, si fos menester.
Fins a finals de la dècada dels seixanta, el Segon Imperi visquĂ© un temps de bonança econĂ²mica i creixement que li facilitĂ el suport social de tres sectors socials indispensables: l’exèrcit, l’EsglĂ©sia (la qual tenia un paper social enorme via l’educaciĂ³ i que era afavorida any rere any als pressupostos de l’estat) i la burgesia, entusiastament enriquida grĂ cies al desenvolupament industrial, els contractes pĂºblics, l’eufĂ²ria borsĂ til, etc. PerĂ², com en molts altres escenaris europeus on el capitalisme estava prenent volada, aquest creixement venia acompanyat de desigualtats socials rampants . A ParĂs permetĂ© una segregaciĂ³ social molt marcada que seria clau per explicar el posterior aixecament revolucionari de la Comuna.
AixĂ doncs, en un moment de dolça consolidaciĂ³ de l’estat liberal francès i amb una posiciĂ³ internacional remarcable, acrescuda grĂ cies a una polĂtica exterior de prestigi, expansionista i imperialista forçada en bona part per l’exèrcit, semblava que el nou règim napoleĂ²nic podria durar eternament, perĂ² un nou poder ascendent a Europa acabaria amb el Segon Imperi en uns pocs mesos.
Baionetes prussianes a Versalles A finals de la dècada dels seixanta, desprĂ©s d’un perĂode de relativa liberalitzaciĂ³ del règim, els suports socials que havien anat donant suport a NapoleĂ³ III estaven erosionant-se, principalment per una conjuntura econĂ²mica internacional menys plĂ cida generada per la Guerra de SecessiĂ³ Americana (1861-65) . Tot aixĂ², sumat al desastre que havia suposat la (cara) expediciĂ³ militar francesa a Mèxic (1861-67) deixava el règim en hores baixes, perĂ² va ser PrĂºssia qui faria col·lapsar França mitjançant una guerra.
La guerra francoprussiana (1870-71), iniciada el 19 de juliol 1870 fou breu, perĂ² contundent. La possibilitat d’una unificaciĂ³ alemanya per part d’una PrĂºssia ascendent era un perill directe per al paĂs gal, ja que no Ăºnicament afebliria la posiciĂ³ francesa i comptaria amb un competidor geopolĂtic directe a l’Europa Central, sinĂ³ que tambĂ© obriria la porta a l’annexiĂ³ de les regions d’AlsĂ cia i Lorena (considerades com a territoris de cultura alemanya) per part de PrĂºssia. El canceller alemany, Otto von Bismarck (1815-98), desprĂ©s d’assegurar-se la neutralitat britĂ nica i la russa i haver tensat hĂ bilment les relacions diplomĂ tiques amb França aconseguĂ que NapoleĂ³ III li declarĂ©s la guerra . L’error seria fatal.
L’exèrcit francès, mal equipat i dirigit, i amb efectius dispersos per les seves colĂ²nies i Roma (efectius francesos hi eren presents d’ençà de l’esclafament de la RepĂºblica Romana, proclamada el 1849), no va tenir mai cap possibilitat real davant de la maquinĂ ria bèl·lica prussiana: nombrosa i molt millor equipada. PerĂ² fou la derrota francesa de Sedan la que posĂ punt final al Segon Imperi. No fou Ăºnicament una desfeta en tota regla, sinĂ³ que el mateix NapoleĂ³ III seria capturat. A mesura que anaven arribant les notĂcies de les derrotes a ParĂs, un grup de polĂtics encapçalats per LĂ©on Gambetta proclamĂ la repĂºblica a l’HĂ´tel de Ville, a ParĂs. Era la fi del Segon Imperi i l’inici de la III RepĂºblica (1870-1940) .
El 19 de setembre, les tropes prussiano-alemanyes iniciaren un setge a la mateixa ciutat de ParĂs que duraria quatre mesos i on moriren centenars de persones. Les diferències socials que havien anat aprofundint-se durant l’Imperi determinarien qui passaria gana i qui no (o qui havia pogut marxar de ParĂs perquè tenia casa fora de la ciutat assetjada). O dit en altres termes: qui feu front principalment a l’atac prussiĂ i en patĂ mĂ©s durament les conseqĂ¼Ă¨ncies foren les classes populars parisenques.
Per si tot aixĂ² fos poc, mentre els parisencs aguantaven el setge, arribĂ la notĂcia que els prussians havien proclamat l’imperi alemany («Deutsches Reich ») i consumat la unificaciĂ³ alemanya ni mĂ©s ni menys que a la Galeria dels Miralls del Palau de Versalles, un lloc quasi mĂstic de la histĂ²ria francesa (un record de la França gloriosa del Rei Sol) que suposĂ un cop molt dur per a la moral i orgull francesos. Una jugada de poc tacte, perĂ² segurament obligada per a Bismarck, qui no volia proclamar l’imperi a Berlin per no afavorir-la per sobre de cap altra ciutat alemanya.

Foto: Wikipedia Mentre els nous capitosts polĂtics animaven al poble a resistir a ultrança, començaven a negociar ja amb els prussians el final de la guerra i a traçar un projecte de repĂºblica que tornĂ©s a respondre, essencialment, a les necessitats dels poderosos i tornar a la ‘normalitat’ liberal com mĂ©s aviat millor. O, dit d’una altra manera, traçar una lĂnia de continuĂ¯tat entre la II RepĂºblica burgesa antidemocrĂ tica i la nova. PerĂ² per poder implementar el nou ordre de coses, calia apaivagar el furor popular i desarmar el poble de ParĂs.
18 de març de 1871. «Vive la Commune! » La fi del conflicte amb PrĂºssia significaria tambĂ© una factura enorme i de molt difĂcil gestiĂ³. Al final de la guerra, el gener de 1871, França hauria de fer front a les compensacions de guerra als prussians (5.000 milions de francs amb un 5% d’interessos) i mantenir 500.000 soldats al seu territori; una gesta complicada, tenint en compte l’augment de deute pĂºblic generat durant el Segon Imperi.
Per la seva banda, Bismarck volia assegurar-se una pau duradora amb el nou govern francès , i per aixĂ² forçà que es convoquessin eleccions en territori francès, el 8 de febrer de 1871. Com ja havia passat durant la II RepĂºblica, el 1848, el vot rural fou essencial per decantar la majoria parlamentĂ ria de la nova Assemblea (emplaçada a Bordeus) a favor dels conservadors i monĂ rquics , els quals obtindrien 450 diputats dels 750. Per aquest motiu aquesta fou coneguda com a Assemblea «rural», o «parlament dels terratinents» .
AixĂ² assegurava, no Ăºnicament la pau amb el nou i poderĂ³s veĂ teutĂ³, sinĂ³ tambĂ© l’inici de la concreciĂ³ d’un projecte conservador i classista per a França . Per poder-lo dur a terme, perĂ², calia desarmar el poble de ParĂs, el qual s’havia armat per resistir l’invasor prussiĂ , a qui, per cert, ja havia vist desfilar triomfalment pels Camps Elisis.
DesprĂ©s de dues insurreccions menors l’octubre de 1870 i el gener de 1871 contra el govern provisional, del qual les classes populars parisenques desconfiaven enormement, la situaciĂ³ era realment volĂ til. El fet que aquestes mateixes classes populars interpretessin com una traĂ¯ciĂ³ l’armistici, primer, i la pau amb PrĂºssia desprĂ©s , agreujĂ la tensiĂ³ entre el govern provisional i el poble de ParĂs. I tambĂ© posĂ en guĂ rdia les classes benestants de la ciutat, les quals odiaven els prussians, perĂ² encara mĂ©s un poble que, cada dia que passava, semblava mĂ©s disposat a amotinar-se; el nou govern francès tambĂ© tenia por que els parisencs acabessin implementant una repĂºblica social (la «Sociale »).
PerĂ² el tret de sortida de la Comuna es disparĂ en el moment en què el govern republicĂ enviĂ l’exèrcit francès per confiscar uns canons custodiats per la GuĂ rdia Nacional (i que havia adquirit per subscripciĂ³ popular) als barris populars de Montmartre, Belleville i La Villette. Un moviment que estava destinat a ser el primer pas per al desarmament de ParĂs provocĂ una forta contestaciĂ³ popular armada a favor de la GuĂ rdia Nacional (que durant el conflicte s’havia anat ‘popularitzant’ i tenia una tradiciĂ³ democrĂ tica a l’hora d’escollir els seus oficials i que en aquells moments estava dirigida per un Comitè Central) i de la Comuna de ParĂs: «Visca la Comuna!». És el 18 de març de 1871.
S’iniciava un perĂode que s’allargaria fins al maig d’aquell mateix any, curt, perĂ² extraordinĂ riament intens i prolĂfic que no Ăºnicament suposaria una contestaciĂ³ absoluta de l’ordre social tal com portava modelant-se des de principis del segle XIX ja no en el pla teĂ²ric, sinĂ³ tambĂ© la concreciĂ³ d’una alternativa al capitalisme i que ha estat qualificat per molts historiadors com la primera materialitzaciĂ³ socialista de la histĂ²ria .
MĂ©s enllĂ del programa concret que proposĂ i duguĂ© a terme la Comuna, cal tenir en compte que aquest no apareguĂ© per ciència infusa, sinĂ³ que partia d’un substrat ideologicopopular de llarg recorregut i que podem remuntar, com a mĂnim, al perĂode democrĂ tico-popular de la «Gran» RevoluciĂ³ Francesa i al jacobinisme .
La falta d’una ideologia clara Ă©s tambĂ© un dels trets diferenciadors d’aquesta revoluciĂ³ temporalment reeixida. Al contrari que les revolucions del segle XX, les quals es feien en nom d’ideologies (generalment) mĂ©s definides, la Comuna fou un punt d’encontre de diferents tradicions de pensament popular, obrerista i progressista que feia decennis que estaven fortament arrelades: mĂ©s enllĂ del jacobinisme (el lĂder del qual, Maximilien Robespierre, era Ă mpliament recordat i reverenciat pels demĂ²crates de la primera meitat del segle XIX), tambĂ© hi trobem blanquistes, proudhonians o obrers influenciats per les idees que venien de l’AssociaciĂ³ Internacional de Treballadors (AIT). Aquests idearis, per altra banda, segurament no haguessin pogut arrelar amb la mateixa força sense l’establiment paral·lel d’un sistema educatiu no reglat organitzat per les mateixes classes populars, en contraposiciĂ³ a l’oficial (amb una forta presència de l’EsglĂ©sia i no sempre massa eficient), on s’ensenyaven uns valors ben diferents dels estipulats en les lleis educatives franceses.

I Ă©s que el nacionalisme popular jugarĂ un paper essencial en tot aquest procĂ©s : ja sigui cantant la Marsellesa (una acciĂ³ que fins ben entrat el segle XX significava entonar una balada obrerista i a favor de les classes populars, mĂ©s que cantar les glĂ²ries franceses) o resistint el setge prussiĂ , el patriotisme popular entenia que una naciĂ³ no podia dominar a cap altra, independentment de la seva força o mida. No debades, aixĂ² ja havia tingut un primer reflex en la DeclaraciĂ³ de Drets de 1795 (altre cop, l’ombra de la RevoluciĂ³ Francesa era llarga), que establia que «cada poble Ă©s independent i sobirĂ , qualsevulla sigui el nombre d’individus que el componen i l’extensiĂ³ de territori que ocupa. Aquesta sobirania Ă©s inalienable». Al mateix temps, defensava la sobirania del comĂº enfront dels interessos o privilegis particulars .
La concreciĂ³ d’un vell somni AixĂ doncs, el programa polĂtic concretat i desenvolupat per la Comuna de ParĂs emanava, no Ăºnicament de les seves experiències quotidianes o d’una xarxa de complicitats socials notable, sinĂ³ tambĂ© d’un bagatge ideolĂ²gic de llarg recorregut histĂ²ric . Es tractava, doncs, de la materialitzaciĂ³ d’una sèrie d’idearis democrĂ tics, populars i obreristes que s’havien anat formulant durant molts decennis. Com es concretaren les demandes de la Comuna, a partir d’aquest calidoscopi revolucionari?
El primer pas de la Comuna fou legitimar el nou règim mitjançant unes eleccions i el Comitè Central de la GuĂ rdia Nacional exigĂ al govern francès (que havia fugit a Versalles amb una part important de l’exèrcit encara fidel a ell i a la majoria de treballadors pĂºblics) que reconeguĂ©s l’autogovern de ParĂs, l’autonomia de la comuna. El nou govern de la ciutat estava encapçalat pel Comitè Central de la GuĂ rdia Nacional, i estava previst que traspassĂ©s el poder a un Consell de la Comuna en unes eleccions per sufragi universal (masculĂ) que no es podrien celebrar fins al 26 de març. El govern revolucionari sabia massa bĂ© que ParĂs representava gairebĂ© un paĂs a part de la resta de França i els seus posicionaments socials estaven molt mĂ©s avançats que la resta de l’HexĂ gon i que necessitava polĂtiques prĂ²pies que responguessin a les seves necessitats. Paral·lelament, se suspenguĂ© l’estat de setge, es decretĂ la llibertat de premsa i s’amnistiaren els presos polĂtics.
Durant un perĂode d’uns dos mesos, la Comuna aplicĂ una sèrie de mesures socials d’una modernitat que depassava Ă mpliament el marc cronolĂ²gic en què tingueren lloc. MĂ©s enllĂ de les diferències existents entre els diferents actors revolucionaris (les relacions dels quals no foren sempre, ni de molt, bones), s’acordaren una sèrie de mesures socials (tambĂ© d’altres immediates per assegurar el control militar de la ciutat), algunes de les quals enumerem aquĂ:
Control dels preus d’aliments bĂ sics Pensions per a les viudes i orfes dels soldats morts durant la guerra Es desplegaren ambiciosos mecanismes per assegurar un habitatge per a tota la poblaciĂ³ (aturant desnonaments, prorrogant el pagament de lloguers, habilitant mecanismes per resoldre els litigis entre propietaris i llogaters…) Millores en el sistema de beneficència Establiment d’un salari mĂ xim per als funcionaris de 6.000 francs (el salari mitjĂ d’un obrer parisenc era d’uns 1.500-2.000 francs) El dret de la nacionalitzaciĂ³ per als estrangers que treballaven a ParĂs (especialment important en el cas dels polonesos) RegulaciĂ³ i limitaciĂ³ de la jornada laboral Establiment de la separaciĂ³ entre l’EsglĂ©sia i l’Estat Se sotmetia a un estricte escrutini als representants del poble, els quals havien de ser destituĂ¯ts si no complien amb les seves obligacions Obligatorietat d’anar a l’escola (laica i gratuĂ¯ta) a tots els infants Proposta de federaciĂ³ de les comunes franceses, posant punt final al centralisme francès Aposta per la democrĂ cia directa Malgrat la modernitat d’aquestes mesures i com d’avançades foren per al seu temps, hi haguĂ© un Ă mbit important on la ruptura no s’imposĂ a la tradiciĂ³: en el del gènere. Les iniciatives dutes a terme per la Comuna no tingueren en compte els greuges propis que patia la dona per se i els que havia d’aguantar especĂficament en el capitalisme vuitcentista (percebien menys salari que els homes, s’ocupaven de les tasques de la llar, patien les conseqĂ¼Ă¨ncies de la falta d’anticonceptius i de la criança de les criatures, etc.). I malgrat l’enorme presència i protagonisme que tingueren, es mantinguĂ© una relaciĂ³ de submissiĂ³ i paternalisme vers les dones, sovint de menyspreu . AixĂ² obligĂ que les dones fessin valer els seus drets (i formular-los) durant la Comuna. Algunes demandes, com el dret a l’educaciĂ³ de les nenes, foren escoltades i anaren guanyant influència .
En qualsevol cas, i malgrat aquesta deficiència notable vers el gènere, les mesures preses durant el govern revolucionari de la Comuna suposaven una ruptura total i absoluta amb l’ordre burgès anterior i suposaven un salt democrĂ tic que afectava la totalitat de la vida dels treballadors i en millorava la seva qualitat de vida . Amb les deficiències lĂ²giques creades per la situaciĂ³ bèl·lica, la Comuna aconseguĂ garantir un mĂnim de subsistència i exercir les funcions bĂ siques d’un estat modern (incloent-hi el control de les comunicacions o el seu finançament).
Ara bĂ©, per aquesta mateixa situaciĂ³ bèl·lica, tambĂ© cal recordar que moltes d’aquestes mesures no varen poder-se adoptar plenament (o es van desenrotllar amb dificultats). I Ă©s que, immediatament desprĂ©s d’haver finit la guerra amb els prussians, la Comuna aguantĂ una altra guerra, aquest de carĂ cter civil, contra les tropes lleials a la nova RepĂºblica Francesa (burgesa).
La carnisseria repressiva de Thiers Entre el març i el maig de 1871, coexistien a França dos projectes polĂtics antagĂ²nics : un, encapçalat per la Comuna, suposava l’autoorganitzaciĂ³ i el govern de la classe obrera sobre premisses democrĂ tiques i ‘socialistes’ (podrĂem dir); i l’altre, el d’una repĂºblica burgesa que assegurĂ©s la continuĂ¯tat del model econĂ²mic capitalista, la preeminència dels interessos de les classes socials afavorides pel mateix i que tenia el seu cap visible en la figura del seu president Adolph Thiers (1797-1877), personalitat polĂtica destacada des de la Monarquia de Juliol de 1830.
La Comuna havia comès un gran error que pagaria car : deixar a l’enemic que s’organitzĂ©s. DesprĂ©s de la seva proclamaciĂ³ i que una part de l’exèrcit s’unĂs a la seva causa, aquesta prioritzĂ legitimar el nou règim mitjançant l’organitzaciĂ³ d’eleccions i no considerĂ interceptar militarment les forces republicanes, que fugiren de la capital i es refugiaren a Versalles . A partir d’aquĂ, la Comuna estaria sentenciada. Thiers Ăºnicament havia d’esperar a rebre reforços de tota França per comptar amb una superioritat numèrica incontestable i acabar amb la revoluciĂ³ per la força de les armes. Dues figures tan importants del socialisme cientĂfic com Marx i Lenin consideraren aquest fet com a clau per entendre el fracĂ s de la Comuna, en les seves anĂ lisis posteriors.
Otto von Bismarck. Foto: Wikipedia L’aĂ¯llament i soledat de ParĂs , a mĂ©s, eren un fet confirmaven la inevitabilitat del seu trĂ gic final. Malgrat alguns esclats revolucionaris semblants a ParĂs en altres grans ciutats gales, aquests no acabaren de quallar i foren rĂ pidament reprimits. I els intents d’un nodrit grup de republicans per evitar una guerra civil francesa i actuar com a intermediaris entre els dos contendents fracassaren.
Paral·lelament a l’acumulaciĂ³ de forces reaccionĂ ries, Bismarck donĂ llum verda a l’alliberament de tots els soldats capturats durant les batalles de Metz i Sedan perquè reprimissin el moviment comuner . Efectivament, la por a què una revoluciĂ³ similar a la de ParĂs tinguĂ©s lloc en el novell imperi alemany va ser un element decisori determinant. AixĂ doncs, les forces militars que havien fracassat en la defensa de la seva naciĂ³ contra un enemic exterior, encaraven una nova tasca: acabar amb un enemic interior . Patrice Mac Mahon (1808-93), el general responsable de la desfeta de Sedan, i futur president de la RepĂºblica, seria un dels principals botxins.
Un cop van acumular tropes suficients, aquestes arribaren a ParĂs i arremeteren contra les tropes revolucionĂ ries. Les reformes urbanĂstiques de Haussman, que s’havien dut a terme nomĂ©s uns anys enrere, foren essencials per a un rĂ pid control de la ciutat , grĂ cies a la major amplitud dels carrers i districtes, que permeteren un desplaçament ampli i rĂ pid de les tropes.
Les ordres dels comandaments militars foren les d’una repressiĂ³ fĂsica exempleritzant . Es calcula que durant aquelles jornades, moriren (depenent de les fons) entre 5.000-100.000 persones . Si bĂ© es tracta de xifres molt dispars, historiadors com Roberto Ceamanos han deixat constĂ ncia que poc desprĂ©s dels fets de la Comuna, mancaven unes 100.000 persones en els censos municipals de la ciutat. La ferocitat de les tropes «rurals» s’explicava tambĂ© en part per l’odi que sentien vers els habitants de ParĂs, els quals vivien en una realitat que era totalment incomprensible per a ells; i la demonitzaciĂ³ que en feren els oficials tambĂ© hi ajudĂ .
La ferocitat de la repressiĂ³, en qualsevol cas, Ă©s Ăºnicament comparable a les grans matances del segle XX i no s’aturĂ Ăºnicament en la carnisseria en sĂ: deportacions, delacions, humiliacions, violacions i empresonaments en massa foren el destĂ per a molts dels que havien estat involucrats d’alguna manera en la Comuna. La subversiĂ³ gegantina de l’ordre social que s’havia viscut durant aquelles setmanes no podia tornar-se a repetir mai mĂ©s . A finals de maig de 1871, la Comuna ja havia deixat d’existir.
El llegat Aparentment, la Comuna havia fracassat. La histĂ²ria d’aquells esdeveniments comptĂ amb pocs analistes contemporanis comprensius amb les seves causes . Fins i tot una de les grans figures intel·lectuals franceses, Émile Zola (1840-1902), qui anys desprĂ©s es perfilaria com un dels grans intel·lectuals progressistes del paĂs, qualificĂ els fets de la Comuna com una febrada popular i que (tristament, aixĂ² sĂ), la repressiĂ³ era l’Ăºnica soluciĂ³ per solucionar-ho.
La demonitzaciĂ³, caricaturitzaciĂ³ i simplificaciĂ³ dels fets de la Comuna impregnaren la majoria de les explicacions posteriors de la Comuna. Ă’bviament, no hi havia cap mena d’interès per part de les plomes burgeses d’entendre o explicar un projecte polĂtic totalment antagĂ²nic al seu.
Hi haguĂ© llegat de la Comuna de ParĂs? Amb el pas del temps, la III RepĂºblica francesa anĂ relaxant la repressiĂ³ contra les classes populars i la seva censura sobre el tabĂº que suposava 1871. Paulatinament, hi haguĂ© una mena de reconciliaciĂ³ nacional, materialitzada per exemple en el retorn d’exiliats i deportats . Per descomptat, aixĂ² s’explica en bona mesura perquè l’estat francès al segle XIX encarava un dels grans reptes de tots els estats occidentals: l’ascens de les masses i la democratitzaciĂ³ de l’estat; i aixĂ², d’alguna manera significava reconciliar-se amb el seu passat recent i intentar explicar-lo .
TambĂ© explica que aquella legislaciĂ³ pionera que havia inspirat l’actuaciĂ³ de la Comuna acabĂ©s sent desplegada per la III RepĂºblica francesa amb el pas dels anys . Precisament, una de les grans lleis que provocĂ un terratrèmol polĂtic al paĂs seria la que separava l’Estat de l’EsglĂ©sia, el 1905. Vint-i-quatre anys desprĂ©s, doncs, que la Comuna ho apliquĂ©s per primera vegada, aixĂ² tenia una repercussiĂ³ a nivell nacional.
ColofĂ³ de l’obrerisme popular del XIX o predecessor dels nous moviments obrers que acabarien imposant-se a finals del segle XIX (essencialment, socialisme i anarquisme)? Les revolucions socialistes triomfants al segle XX es desenvoluparan en contextos geopolĂtics i sociolĂ²gics diferents i amb un rol del partit polĂtic molt mĂ©s rellevant, perĂ² moltes tingueren en la Comuna de ParĂs un referent clar . Molts dels principals lĂders socialistes, com per exemple Lenin (qui citava força sovint la Comuna), van estudiar a consciència aquest acte revolucionari i els motius del seu fracĂ s. Per la seva banda, les noves generacions de lĂders obreristes poc tenien a veure amb aquella amalgama cultural que havia impregnat la Comuna.
Foto: Wikimedia Commons – hparis11ed Quan faltaven poques hores per al final de la Comuna, l’exèrcit francès va afusellar uns 150 «comunards» davant d’un mur, al cementiri de Père-Lachaise. Foren enterrats en una fossa oberta als peus d’aquest mur. La memĂ²ria popular va nomenar aquell lloc «Mur des FĂ©dĂ©rĂ©s» i el convertĂ en un lloc d’homenatge quan, a partir del 23 de maig de 1880 , uns 25.000 parisencs, desafiant les ordres de la policia, hi dipositaren flors vermelles a mode d’homenatge . Aquest acte, repetit d’aleshores ençà [1] esdevinguĂ© un dels mĂ©s sentits de l’esquerra francesa i un reconeixement als «“comunards», considerats els pioners d’allĂ² que volia aconseguir. En l’ambient fervorĂ³s, popular i reivindicatiu que havia suposat la victĂ²ria de les eleccions legislatives franceses pel Front Popular (abril-maig de 1936), el 24 de maig de 1936, 600.000 persones, encapçalades per LĂ©on Blum (secretari general del partit socialista francès) i Maurice Thorez (secretari general del Partit Comunista Francès) hi reteren homenatge . L’esquerra francesa sabia perfectament qui els havia precedit.
